Teenager Takes Aim Against Childhood Obesity with Work-Out Video
Oh - January , 2005 - Eighteen year old Lindsay Renea , who has always enjoyed the rigors of physical activity has just produced her own work-out video. Whether it is track, basketball, dance, or just plain exercising, Lindsay loves to ’feel the burn’ and is convinced that with a little inspiration from a peer, many other young people would want to exercise more. So it was no surprise among her family and friends when Lindsay decided to flex her muscles against the epidemic of obesity among young people in our society.
Lindsay Renea has produced her first of a series of half-hour work-out videos called “Youth Fit with Lindsay Renea.” Her idea is to motivate other young people to get their bodies moving in ways that will strengthen their muscles, reduce fat, and help them enjoy a lifetime of good health.. Former Ursuline H. S. Quarterback Daryll Clark recently screened the video and said, “The movements in her routine really do work and she chose the best exercises for each muscle group.” “Lindsay was born for the camera,“ stated Earl Barron at the recent screening (also a graduate of Ursuline H. S). “She is a natural because she makes everything look so easy; she makes you want to get on the floor and try it.”
Lindsay has been involved with motivating young people throughout most of her teen years. As a dancer she has choreographed solo and group performances for churches, youth groups and the Youngstown Playhouse. In this recent video project, she skillfully has incorporated techniques from her athletic training in basketball, track and dance, as well as her many years of musical training under Dr. Everett McCollum, to compose a rhythmically enjoyable, and well-rounded work-out routine for the average teen; a routine that is both doable and very effective. When asked what she has learned from working with groups of varying ages and physical abilities, Lindsay commented, “I have found that the earlier people get interested in physical fitness, the better it is for them in anything they might want to do later on. When you think about it, exercising really isn’t that hard. The only equipment you need is your body, and everybody has one. So there is no excuse.”
“Youth Fit with Lindsay Renea” Video and DVD is now available online.
