Sound Bites from Audio Engineer, Kim N. Hines, Oneness Sound Company
Hines is the official Sound Engineer for "The Debórah Show."  It's great when you know your craft. It's rewarding when others notice.  I once  mixed for a jazz festival  featuring  Marion Meadows,  Phyllis Hyman, Jonathan Butler, and others. Everyone had their own Sound Engineer. I was there for Marion. The day after Marion's show  I was promoted to Sound Engineer over the entire production. Why?  Because Marion’s music sounded exactly like the record.  To mix sound properly you have to be an interactive listener. It’s more than just turning volume up and down , you have to listen to EVERYTHING.  Scan the entire spectrum. When the bass player plucks a string, you have to know what that sounds like. You have to become every musician on stage because every note that each musician plays is important. If you can't do that, then something will be lacking.  When a drummer puts a frown on his face, you have to feel that emotional change and do something about it. Sound is dynamic. Everything affects the sound.  You have to be sensitive to all of it.  Up Next: Kim will be mixing for La Panache Release Party. Check Kim Hines:  facebook.com/kimhines
